Different roof coverings have varying life spans. The materials used, the quality of the workmanship and the exposure to the elements will all be contributing factors to the effective life of the roof. There are some that last for a hundred years or more, while others deteriorate after 40 years, The roof and guttering must be kept in a good condition to enable a property to remain weatherproof. Ineffective covering can lead to expensive work to the underlying timbers and any decorative finishes, which will deteriorate rapidly in damp conditions.

Guttering
The purpose of guttering is to efficiently channel rain water from the roof towards a downpipe which in turn carries it down to ground level and then into the drainage system. UPVC Gutters
PVC gutters are made from unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. The sections and fittings are lighter and do not require painting. Our most popular line at present.
Cast Iron Guttering
Most old houses have cast iron gutters and downpipes. They are heavy and their fastenings should be maintained and checked at regular intervals. They are very long lasting if painted regularly. The insides should be primed with zinc chromate paint. The finishing coat should be a bituminous paint.
Pressed Steel Gutters
Pressed steel gutters are lighter and stronger than cast iron ones. If well primed and galvanised they are more durable than cast iron ones.
Vitreous enamelled gutters
Vitreous enamelled gutters come in a variety of colours.
Asbestos Guttering
This type of guttering can become brittle with age.
